Sipp Theatre

The Sipp Theatre was originally built as a Vaudeville House and has hosted the greats in the entertainment world from the 1930’s to present. The Sipp has recently been renovated with a new lobby and new sound system. If you enjoy historic theatres and great entertainment, then visit the Historical Sipp Theatre. The theatre is also available for rental opportunities.

The Sipp Theatre has been a beloved landmark in Paintsville since it opened in 1932 as the town’s first “talkie” movie house. In 1994, the building was in poor condition and in danger of being demolished. Thankfully, the Sipp Theatre Foundation was created to save the theatre and restore it to its original mission and purpose. The restoration began in May of 1994 and was completed enough for the theatre to reopen as a movie house in July. Since then, the Sipp has been a popular venue for concerts, theatre productions, and other events, with music ranging from bluegrass to gospel and country. With around 15 events a year, the Sipp is a great place to experience the culture and entertainment of East Kentucky.

To honor Loretta Lynn, Paintsville Tourism partnered with the Sipp Theatre to show Loretta’s biopic, Coal Miner’s Daughter in October of 2022. Featuring Tourism Director, Jeremiah Parsons in this video by Mountain Top News.
